Personal Statement

My greatest strength as a tutor (beyond really knowing the subjects I tutor) is my ability to adapt to and match the way you learn. A close second is my ability to take abstract concepts and make them much more understandable. I don?t do ?tricks? since it takes as much effort to memorize tons of tricks as it does to actually learn the stuff (though I do have plenty of ideas on how to do things more easily). What I do do is teach solid theory, techniques, and study skills as simply and directl...

John was able to jump right in on day 1 to help my son with chemistry and pre-calculus. He really knows the material and was able to explain it in a way that simplified it and made it easier for my son to understand.

This instructor is well equipped to get you to pass the math requirements for the AFOQT. I had a few math lesson with John and then retook my AFOQT. I was able to pass. He is very patient and is an absolute delight to have as tutor. As I only needed help with math this is the only topic I can speak on. However, if he is even half as good at any other subject you?ll be in great hands.
- Daniel C. from Altus, OK
My 10th grade daughter was willing to book a 2nd lesson with him, and seeing that she has extremely high anxiety, that was a big plus for me. Looking forward to it.

John has a great way of going about his teaching methods. It is so important to him that he teaches the student and makes sure they comprehend the concepts. I would highly recommend him.
- Dana R. from Orange, CA
John makes sure that his clients understand the material! He also is very patient and gives helpful tools you can use!

John helped me out a lot for the Math portions of the AFOQT. He did a great job of breaking the problems down so that they are really easy to figure out. In fact, he showed me ways on how to simplify problems that I had never thought of. He is patient and willing to help with anything you need help on.
- Steven B. from Metamora, IL
So far we refreshed on word problems and he provided great insight on how to break them down in a matter of time. He was very patient during our one on one session. I can't wait for our next session.
- Lorenza T. from Folsom, CA
John is a superb tutor, providing multiple angles of approach to solve time-constrained mathematics questions. He is available when needed, and patient with learning abilities. He is skilled at teaching math concepts that stick and work when the test comes and you must recall methods to expeditiously solve factorials divided by factorials for example. As a retired USAF Officer, and AF Academy teacher, he is well suited to teach math, and why it is used as a measure of predictability for commissioning in the USAF. Every lesson is thorough, and I recommend meeting at least twice a week with John, once in the mid-point and once on the weekend, so your brain has time to learn, absorb, and apply each new technique.
- JONATHAN S. from Travis Afb, CA
John has helped me refresh my math skills for an upcoming exam. Over the years I have lost some of my math and with the help of John, I have been able to math head on!

John literally saved my precalculus grade (and my entire winter semester)! I decided to get a tutor close to my midterms because I was not grasping the content. He was very knowledgeable and explained the concepts simply and in a very straightforward manner. I wish all teachers taught that way! The concepts, which seemed very convoluted when discussed in class, made sense when John explained it during our sessions. I had many MANY questions, which he patiently answered. He made sure I truly understood and could apply the math concepts to test questions. He also responded quickly to text messages, and even when I asked for last minute tutoring sessions, he always made time! He genuinely cares for his students and wants them to succeed. Thank you so much for everything that you do, John!
- Marie G. from Los Angeles, CA
John is an excellent tutor with a firm grasp on how to reach each student! My son?s comprehension of the materials has sky rocketed.
- James C. from Los Angeles, CA
John is a very skilled, knowledgeable, patient and dedicated tutor. He truly cares about his students. My son enjoyed his session and gained a better understanding of the material. We were so pleased with the final outcome. Thank you so much for your help!

Knowledgeable not only with subject matter, but with behavioral support and confidence building. I love that John explains why it?s important to learn the material?this is very motivating to my son.

I highly recommend John. My Asperger teen transferred high schools and struggled in his honors precalculus class. In fact, this straight-A student was failing. He couldn't grasp the trigonometry component of precalculus, and he couldn't grasp the teaching methods at his new school. We tried an expensive tutoring shop in town, but my teen's test scores continued to slide and hit as low as the 40s in percentages. With six weeks left in the semester, we were desperate. We found John on Wyzant and he turned things around immediately. My teen scored a 75% on a test just after two sessions with John, and all tests thereafter were in the B+ to A+ range. My teen not only passed the class at semester's end (which was in real doubt), but earned a B. John told us he couldn't work miracles, but he did. My teen reports that John was clear, concise, and provided alternate ways to look at and tackle math problems. My teen also says John taught him study methods that make much more sense to him than the methods taught at his new school. As a parent, I found John to be professional, courteous, and punctual. He quickly responded to messages and was flexible with scheduling. He also seemed to have a knack with understanding and working with my teen's unique Aspie needs. John set him up for success, and my teen feels confident with his new math tools going forward. Should my teen ever need tutoring again, he says without a doubt he's returning to John.

Only one session in, but John started with the most essential questions: Why is geometry important? And how is it different? Our son couldn?t answer that for himself, therefore, he didn?t see a need to learn it. Hopefully we will get on track now.
- Jennifer L. from Redondo Beach, CA
If you?re looking for help and you want a caring and kind person to do it, John is the person for you. Extremely knowledgeable and friendly. I am prepping for the CBEST and he was so helpful.
- Chad C. from Anaheim, CA
I?m reviewing for the GMAT exam with John and I had my first lesson yesterday - I already feel like a cloud is lifted! I?m understanding concepts a lot better! He?s great - I highly recommend.
- Surbhi A. from Los Angeles, CA
I can't say enough about John. He met me in crisis, several chapters behind in my Statistics course. He understood the sense of urgency to catch up, did his best to accommodate my difficult schedule, and exhibited great patience and compassion during our lessons. I'm a bit of a stressed out learner, especially with anything numbers related. He attacked the concepts from different angles until it started to make sense. In my initial tutor search John was a bit out of my budget but I've found the level of conceptual understanding he can give has made him a very valuable resource. At this point I have worked with John for almost a week and we have 3 more to go. You should absolutely consider him for your tutoring needs!
- LYNDSEY D. from Los Angeles, CA
My son transferred schools at the beginning of second semester and faced a honors chemistry class that was not only being taught from a different book, but approach towards the material was completely different. Needless to say he was at a loss and needed immediate help to grasp concepts that his previous class hadn?t taught yet. Fortunately, we heard about this service and immediately went in search of a tutor. Mr. John has been able to explain concepts in 40 minutes that my son struggled with for about two weeks. He ability to translate concepts and theory has my son walking away from each session with a smile on his face and the confidence that he will be successful in this course. If you are looking for a calm, astute, instructor, Mr. John is definitely the tutor for you.
