Well prepared for class every day. The readings are pretty boring which you have to do a lot of..and there are quizzes and essay tests but it's not bad. Just make sure to read you won't have a problem at all..you actually learn.
Likes what he does which is a big plus on this campus.
Yoshida's class was fairly easy as long as you do the practice quizzes and are very good at writing essays. I found myself being bored in class a lot because we didn't have a lot of variety.
This is an easy course to take as long as you study the quiz guides and read the chapters.
Cool Japanese man who cares about his students.
Since its a 400-level class, Yoshida wants all papers and assignments to be free of generalizations. He's fair, and helpful, but can be tough, but you learn more in his classes than other history classes.
Takashi cracks me up...always running from here to there...I think he wears some jingly thing around his ankle. Good guy.
Very nice guy, and very helpful. This was my first history class, and I learned A LOT. If you read the material and study the notes, you will have no problem.
Nice professor, and a funny guy. He is very clear in his lectures. He gives a lot of tests though, but they are basically straight from the lecture. Just study the notes really well, and you will do fine.
Great teacher, very smart man. I didn't know what to expect but his class was very challenging. Likes to see hard work from students. I completely bombed the first exam but was able to do well on the final and came out with a BA. If you want a good experience and enjoy a challenge take his class.
He's a good teacher. just pay attention to study guide, the test is about the same thing.
This dude is ridiculous! In the 4 timed in-class tests (between 20 to 50 questions with 10 to 20 minutes to complete them) the majority of the class failed each one, the highest scores in the class were low C's or D's. He doesn't realize just how hard he is failing at a professor. Focus is on memorizing random people's quotes, not useful knowledge.
Good teacher. I was incredibly frustrated at the beginning because he gives a quiz every single day (including the first day of class) and I wasn't doing very well. Assigns roughly 50-100 pages of reading/week. DO THE READING and the class will take care of itself. He's a great guy and he'll teach you how to work harder than you've ever had to before.
Be prepared to spend an enormous amount of time on both of these classes. However, both classes are very doable, you just have to make the time commitment. The tests are very easy if you do the study questions and participate. Having no interest in either class prior to taking them, I can say I have learned a lot. He will push you to the edge!
This class is extremely time-consuming. Time management is necessary for starting the first day. READ! Quizzes and essay exams will be impossible if you don't. He is an exceptional instructor if you take the time that is required for this class. The exam is over textbook material - be DETAILED. It is difficult but you will learn from him.
Honestly, this is the worst class I have ever taken. I would not recommend this class to anybody unless you love Japanese history and want to interpret the meaning of it.
If you are looking for a challenging class, then this class is for you. However, I don't mean mentally challenging, I mean that you should not take this class if you have over 12 CR. Also, if you expect him to help you in any way, forget about it. Finally, if you like busywork, you will enjoy this class.
Prof. Yoshida's class is the most time-consuming class I have ever taken. In addition, he will dock you points for using what he calls "universal" terms. So saying the word "Japanese" in an essay could make an "A" paper a "D" in his eyes. Avoid this prof.
It is hard to describe his teaching style. He does grade hard on assignment but there is a method to his madness. All I can say is keep on your toes and you will do fine.
Great teacher. This class requires a lot of independent work so don't put things off to the last minute as you'll be overwhelmed. Read and watch all the materials and you'll do well on the tests. The papers can be difficult, but overall he grades fair and gives feedback. This class is not for the lazy student. Read, read, READ. Don't fall behind. |
