If the horrifically arduous reasonings on Terminstic screens or the painstakingly detailed discussions on various mediums as an epistemological expression of some hidden truth doesn't quite peak your interest, his thick plastic black octagon rimmed glasses surely will (no shade, they look good on him just every class I would sit there just trying to think of where one might find such specific glasses). And if the hour-long debate on defining the difference between a "term" and a "word" does not grab your attention, just count how many times he says the word "precise" or "concise" and I swear, the conversation becomes ten times more stimulating. pro tip: if you value your soul, general well-being, and overall happiness- argue the opposite of what you think is the right answer- find some evidence to back your point, and boom, you've got yourself a winning essay. This method proved successful after having done the opposite and doing poorly and when I tell you I got that beloved paper back with a 98 freak'n percent on the front.... I truly believed the earth to be off its axis, stars unaligned, and Oxford quaking in it narcissistic hubris as the impossible was made possible that glorious day. To this day, that essay hangs on my dorm wall as a reminder that no battle can be quite so severe, nor unbearably overthought, than Com 1200. Matter a fact, like just rename is Overthink Everything 1200 for precision's sake. I swear to you, if you start off any of your responses first week with "the author argues...." and then follow it with "more precisely put" He will worship you, probably disown his own kid for you, and automatically elevate yourself as an academic genius above the uneducated wordy masses . Basically, this class is hard as all get out, incredibly maddening, but at least he is incredibly passionate about his subject and is nice but.... be warned-this class WILL BREAK YOU. sincerely, a scarred COM 1200 survivor.

Pros: Learn a lot
Cons: Lots of work
Dr. Welsh is one of my favorite professors I've had in college so far. Be warned, he is tough...if you take him, prepare to do a lot of work (there is a LOT of reading in Foundations of Human Communication, but I've heard other professors require it too). But you'll also learn a lot from him. Welsh is very smart, and teaches well. He's also really nice outside of class and will take time for his students. I also strongly recommend him as an advisor!
