Barb's class is like a really smart comedian on a game show. She's organized and on point, seems like she's able to talk about almost anything in the world or she makes jokes about herself if she doesn't know something, which makes students feel really comfortabl.e then she finds out by the next class, so you know she's really paying attention to her students. I learned a lot in this class. Inspirational.

Pros: brilliant, funny, cares a lot about students.
Cons: lots of reading.
Barb is awesome, one of the best profs I've ever had. This was a really hard class to take because of the subject but Barb was respectful and very, very thoughtful with the way she taught it. I learned so much more than I thought I would.

Pros: This class is very fun and there are lots of opportunities for discussion. She also let us pick our own grades at the end of the semester.
Cons: She is very liberally biased, so you have to be careful about what you say in class. But as long as you disagree with her respectfully and explain your reasoning she is willing to listen to arguments from any perspective.
At first I thought that this class wasn't for me and almost dropped it, but by the end of the semester I loved it and looked forward to going to class. Do the reading, be respectful of other peoples' opinions, and actively participate and you will do well in this class.

Pros: Showed interest in the material and students.
Cons: When the class is broken up to twice a week the reading load is a little excessive to manage with other classes.

Barb is a wonderful professor, and is so enthusiastic about the subject matter. She is very relateable, knowledgeable, and accessable. Although there is A LOT of reading and writing, she designs the course so that you can apply it to your own life and really take something away from the material. There is a lot of work, but it is not at all difficult to do well. She challenges you to think about the information within the context of your own life, and most students leave the course having a very different perspective than when they started. I had her for WS 295 Representations of Motherhood, and it was definitely one of the best classes I've taken in my 4 years at Uconn.

She is a great professor. Does not base class on her own ideology but promotes diversity of view. Truly one of the greatest profs I have ever had even with all the reading (should be a W course), it was well worth it.

She's a wonderful teacher who is very enthusiastic and is very knowledgable on the subject matter plus there are no exams which is great. Only thing that you need to be prepared is the amount of writing and reading for this class. I almost think it should be a W course, but i'm not saying i had a difficult time. I usually suck at writing but she grades fairly. She basically wants you to write alot of synopsises on the HUNDREDS of articles/readings you have to read. The readings are most of the time interesting, so it's usually not boring at all times. Overall the class was very interesting and wasn't the stereotype where it's male bashing-Guys if you want to take a WS course i would take Gurr, she isn't bias at all.

Barb is great. Our classes consist of discussion groups where we talk about women throughout the world. Our discussions tend to fall off topic at times, relating our class to our every day lives, but she allows us to discuss those topics. Her assignments are not difficult. As long as you do all the readings and participate you'll be fine. Plus, there are no exams!
