I took him for PCB4026. He makes simple topics confusing. If you like professors to be organized then don't signup for his course. Every question is in a form of a riddle and not straight forward. And he's one of those professors that does the "two of the above" and "all of the above" nonsense aimed to confuse students. For an upper level course he's a weak professor. Avoid.

Pros: Great teacher
Loves to teach
Usually curves exams
1 dropped exam
Cons: Difficult (but fair) exams
Hard to get appointment outside of normal office hours
Dr. U is a wonderful teacher who is the best to take for Cell Bio if you want to learn the material well. His exams are challenging but fair, especially considering he will add points onto an exam if he sees a certain percentage of the class got a question wrong. There are quizzes which help you keep up with the material (which can also be challenging) since he expects students to keep up with their studies and reading outside of class. He cares a lot about teaching and for his students to succeed, take him if you want a great teacher!

Pros: He is very willing to meet and speak with students
Cons: writes all his own exams
cannot write exams
questions are poorly worded and deliberately confusing
Do not take classes with him if possible, he makes introductory and basic courses that should be easy, much more difficult than they need to be.

Tests can be tricky because he does that 'one of these' "two of these" "most of these" type thing

Always energetic! Exams are based off lecture notes. I think the quizzes are harder than the exams. My class had 6 exams and 9 quizzes, one quiz dropped. This class is a typical biology/science class.

Pros: Made the class interesting
Easy to understand
Cons: Hard to catch in his office
Have taken Upadhyaya twice now and taking him again for Cell Bio. For both classes I've had all I did was go to every class and take good notes and I never even opened a book! :)

Pros: He seems like a very nice fun guy so he is willing to help you out and give you hints on whats going to be on the exams, and he give worksheets of the quizzes with the exact questions on them before the quiz is due.
Cons: His exams are so specific and anal
Memorize his slides like the back of your hands, every diagram, every little word.....and you'll be ok.

He was a great professor but his teats aren't straight forward. It takes a lot of studying to get a decent grade in his class.

He's good, but you can't slack around in this class. Pay attention, go to the lectures, and take notes.

He's a pretty cool guy teaching wise. He's very enthusiastic and you won't fall asleep in his class when you pay attention and take notes. But his tests are REALLY hard.... He makes the tests like 1 word difference could screw you up and the choices to choose from always confuses you.

He's a really great teacher. Lecture goes by so fast. He's young and knows what he's talking about. His tests can be tricky. He's one of those rare professors who actually expect you to learn. A lot. Put forth plenty of effort. Procrastination will not help. Not at all.
