WOD saves your grade considerably.
Bonus is immense and can boost your grade by 20%. {True Story: Made a 60% on the second exam. Dr.Adam combined my WODS and CW puzzles with this score and sky rocketed it to an 80%.]
His lectures are very simple and not as intimidating as most biology lectures.
Cons: The book is incredibly expensive and not needed.
MB is a whooping $98.00 to activate and that's without the E-text.
His power points are rather methodical and have no engaging concepts.
He seems to emphasis that "non-science majors" aren't "advanced" enough to understand biology in depth.
He's an exceptionally nice guy. His dry humor and retelling of his past follies makes the class more or less tolerable. If you're looking to make at best a B, do take this class.
Cons: His tests don't always reflect what he taught. Some questions literally come from nowhere. Although there is a lot of extra credit, even if you do it all, it may not be a lot of points (my class only ever got 5 extra bonus).
Go to class to get the bonus, do the MB homework, study the powerpoint and MB. You really need to know your stuff to get a good grade on the test. It's still a decent class and he is the better of the two professors that teach BIOL 1002.
Cons: The homework is very hard and graded for accuracy.
The tests are not based on the lectures, but attendance is mandatory.
Cons: There is homework due almost every week, so you have to make sure you keep up with Mastering Biology often because he is constantly uploading new assignments. These can be challenging but the answers can be googled.
Overall, I'm really glad i took biology with Dr. Hrincevich. He's an awesome guy who knows that biology can be intimidating to alot of people and he gives you many oppurtunities to do well. TAKE ADAM!
Cons: It's a lot of material and takes a while to do the homework and study. this class requires a lot of work, but it's not hard to do well. you just have to go to class, study and do the homework
I enjoyed this class, though I was afraid of taking a biology course. Dr. Adam made the class enjoyable and interesting. He has been my favorite teacher so far at LSU. He is a very good and a very effective teacher.
Cons: His tests are hard and usually had about 100 questions. The tests were half pictures which you had to know the ins and outs of. Class is boring. He goes way to far into the details for non-science majors. Waaaay too far. And you have to do Mastering Biology which is useless and hard.
You will have to study a great deal if you want to perform well on the tests. He DOES curve the tests. The tests are extremely long (usually 100 questions with pictures) and very detailed. You will have a lot of notes to study. It is not fun. It's just too much for non-science majors. You'll also have to do Mastering Biology which is not going to help you learn the info, and it will bring down your grade if you do poorly on the mastering bio assignments. Just take Crousillac instead.
Cons: have to show up to class, or you will not do well on test
I needed just one extra point to bring my grade up a letter grade after the final, went to his office, talked to him about it, and he ended up giving me the point I needed.
Cons: Did not seem to be interested in teaching this course. He downloaded the powerpoints directly from the book website and just read them word for word in class, making it difficult to care about the material.
Cons: He's obnoxious
I DID NOT like Hrincevich at all... until i stopped going to his class. Easily made an A in his class by simply studying the notes and pictures he gives out and doing the MasteringBiology quizzes/homework (tip: all the answers can be found by googling the question). He give a TON of bonus for random things (i.e. find a four leaf clover, turn in dog food). I had a friend who went to the class everyday to get the notes, I chose to get them off of note swap. In the end, we both made the same grade in the class. Pick him for an easy A
mastering biology helps your grade out and you can google most of the questions and they pop up on yahoo answers or answers.com
Cons: tests have nothing to do with the notes even though he tells you to study the notes, you won't succeed in taking notes in class unless you have a laptop, and it gets far too technical for INTRO biology class. expensive book that you have to buy new or have to pay like $40 for the mastering biology activation
mastering biology
will NOT curve up on final grade no matter what, even if it less than a tenth of a point...even a .9!
he's really cool during the semester, but by the end of it, he becomes an asshole
Cons: Thinks everyone in his class is a Biology major.
Spends too much time on plants
Cons: Boring, lot of info, boring
Cons: tests are pretty arbitrary and detailed.
Hrincevich isn't as easy as some people make him out to be, but he's a really good teacher. He teaches the material from the powerpoints thoroughly. You don't have to go to class (i didn't) but he rewards people that go to class with extra credit assignments. His bonus questions on the exams are pretty much impossible, unless you're familiar with 40+ 80s rock band album covers. Before the tests, study the quizzes on the book's companion site. They help out a lot too. It's a hard A, but a pretty easy B. I took him for 1001 and 1002 and got an A in both.
Cons: none really, favorite teacher
Take this teacher! he gives so many opportunities for bonus and always tells you exactly what's on the test! His homework and quizzes are also super easy, the answers are always easy to find.
Cons: The material is very boring and you fill in powerpoints to get the notes. He doesn't really make boring information more fun in anyway.
I HIGHLY recommend him. I hear the other teachers don't curve as generously. And he is just a great guy who understands that the people taking his class aren't bio majors so don't really understand the information easily or really care about it.
HIS BONUS QUESTIONS SUCK... first test- match 80's bands with cover albums, second test- match brittany spears albums with year of production, third test- match fragrances with their bottles, and i'm sure the final with suck as well.
