Personal Statement

I am a piano teacher looking for new students with whom to share my musical knowledge and experience! I offer in-home sessions at affordable rates and on a flexible schedule. I am enthusiastic about teaching all ages and all levels of knowledge and ability. I have a broad background and can work with you on a wide variety of musical genres, according to your interests and goals. A little bit about myself, my name is Zakhar Zakharevich and I have studied music theory and practice for over 15 years in both Russia and the United States, with a focus on piano and cello performance. My studies began with a comprehensive music study course at the Okhta Music Lycee in St. Petersburg. I continued learning under the instruction of the world-renowned cellist, Miron Yampolsky, who was a student of the legendary Mstislav Rostropovich. Since immigrating to the US with my family in 2005, I have performed in numerous piano competitions, placing first in a number of them. I studied composition and piano performance at James Madison University. I have composed a wide selection of music for piano, as well as for the electronic keyboard. I am a member of the American Youth Orchestra and have both composed for and performed with the WBS Orchestra. I currently apply my piano playing technique to a rare and complex instrument as principle Gusli player for the WBS Orchestra and perform in a dozen concerts each year.
