Pros: Nice
Cons: -unorganized
-too much unnecessary hw
-stupid deadline dates
-doesn't realize it's a 100 class not a 400
She said that 1 unit classes are more time consuming and harder than 4 unit ones. What a load of shit, stop trying to justify your unneeded workload bitch.
If you want to have any form of free time DO NOT TAKE.

Pros: Nice person.
Cons: -Unorganized
-Pointless work
-no real instruction
-clustered blackboard
-expects homework done on random days
-more work than needed
I took EGR 100 just for the GE credit and I was told it was fun by other students, which obviously did not have faltens as a professor. She is a nice person though, but weigh that with all the cons listed above. Please for your own sanity do not take this professor. This class has caused me the most stress and given the most work than my other 4 unit classes. If she is the only one available take it next quarter, or the next, just please do not take her class.

Pros: None
Cons: Teaches like she is teaching grade-schoolers.
Gives a ton of busywork homework.
Tough grader
Boring
I enrolled in this class without knowing about Koofers. I wish I had.
Dr. Faltens does a horrible job of teaching this course. She goes over topics in class fine, but assigned a ton of homework. It is all busywork, and she expects it done at moments notice. She doesn't mention some things in class, and expects that you scour her Blackboard page to find homework assignments. She emails additional homework a few hours before class.
The syllabus is very vague.
Overall I learned very little from this class.
If you like all of your free time filled with busywork homework where you do not learn anything, make sure you sign up for her course.

Pros: Very nice and helpful if you talk to her individually. Learn some cool stuff in the Nanoscience activity.
Cons: class was disorganized, acted as if she had a strict syllabus and grading system and dates for turning things in, but it everyone was always confused on what was due because the class got off track so easily. Too big of a work load for a one-unit GE lab.

Pros: Nothing
Cons: She assigned over 100 assignments and she doesn't keep up the grading either. She gives out assignments randomly on blackboard with out informing us in class or over email. You'd think it would be an easy class because she treats everyone like elementary students but its not. even after the final, she made sure to give us more work. it's really hard to keep up with all the assignments she gives out.
Avoid her.

worst professor ive ever had. I dreaded going to this class every week and always got frustrated with her. She makes the easiest assignments 10 times harder than it needs to be. This should be a fun relaxing class but not with her. Avoid at all costs.

Pros: Nice person.
Cons: Expects us to be able to do projects without teaching us anything. Treats the class like elementary children. She grades really tough. It feels as if this is the worst class I have ever taken.

Pros: None
Cons: Do not take her. AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS. Just because you got the email to take EGR100 doesn't mean you have to take it. It is honestly a trap. Take another GE or choose another teacher (I didn't call her a professor cause she isn't one.) She is an elementary school teacher. I hope she reads this.

Pros: Can't think of any cause all i'm thinking about are cons
Cons: She gives all this bullshit work for no reason. I never rate professors but I feel like I have to rate her cause she is so bad. She gives out so much tedious work I want to shoot myself. If you ask her for any help on her assignments she doesn't really help you. She wants you to figure out a way to solve it even if it is impossible. I thought this class would be okay because it only had one bad rating, but holy shit. worse class ever. Not even worth taking. It is more work than ALL of my classes combined.

Pros: this class is heavily curved, so don't worry about the kind of grades that you get. As long as you at least finish all of the assignments and take the exams, you should be able to easily pass this class.
Cons: lots of material to cover in a short amount of time.

Dr. Faltens class will suck up all your time as she assigns a ton of work and a ton of reading. The class honestly feels like a 5 unit semester course jammed into a 3 unit quarter course. Not cool.
She assigns a book that you will use often but, never for homework. She uses the iclicker system so make sure you get one and always have your iclicker or you will lose out on the points. Always check blackboard and your course units as she posts a lot of crap that you may not notice.
Personally, she is a nice person but, at times can appear confused. She DOES teach the class like we are second graders and it can get very annoying at times. In her office hours she doesn't get to the point right away and just makes you sit around guessing for awhile. That said you should see her in her office hours so that you get on her good side. Also, try not to make fun of the hip amp.
From experience and word of mouth; don't get down on yourself if you get trolled on your homework and tests. Test averages are usually under 50% and very few get 90-100% on homework. Keep studying hard, bring your iclicker, READ EVERYTHING, and always check blackboard.

Pros: Shes nice.
Cons: She doesnt know what she is talking about. She assigns work constantly and will change assignments causing you to do more work. She makes it hw for you grade your own work and other classmates work with detailed explanations. She makes you turn in work on weekends and when there is no class, so you constantly have to be checking blackboard. She makes you read this a 40 page ch. and write a whole story about it. She assings multiple assignments that need a over 1 page write up. She is unorganized and never gives clear specifics on assignmets. She assigns you useless work that just wastes your time. Shell make you work the hardest you will ever expect for a freshman GE. She has you do a final project and presentation instead of a final exam, but she gives you 2 weeks and has rediculus requirements. Even when the class is finished she makes you grade your own and everyone elses final project.
I beg you if want to have a life next quarter dont take this teacher! I dont know how she has a PHD. She doesnt know how to teach, i learned nothing from her.

Pros: She is nice.
Cons: She makes you do this instrument project where actually have to make an octive from one of them. She wastes alot of time just asking questions, basiclly waste the entire class. She expects you to come up with answers yourself, which is stupid because there is a reason we are paying to go to her lecture. She also makes you grade your own hw sometimes and evaluate your team members after haveing group projects.
I would not take this teacher again if i had the oppertunity

This class was quite a challenge for me. The concepts are a bit abstract which doesn't help when Faltens fails to explain/teach it. We had a whole section on the midterm on thermal properties, despite the fact that it was never taught! Seriously, I went to every class and paid attention! Anyway, it just goes to show that you must be reading the book and understanding the material in order to do well. Ask her real, meaningful questions and she will like you. Make fun of her hip-amp and she'll hate you. Grade Received: B

Read the book, she will lecture, then test you on material in the book. Do not assume the lectures are all encompassing. I don't know of any other professor teaching this course, so good luck.

AVIOD AT ALL COSTS. She possibly the worst teacher I have ever taken. Granted she knows her shit but she fails in teaching the material to her students. There are no midterms but there are "quizzes" which are 100 points each. She teaches the class like we were in elementary school. The quizzes cover material she hardly teaches. Most of the stuff comes from the book and online. To make things worse she lectures the same day as the quiz so you will have less time for the quiz which is usually at the end. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

This class works in groups a lot and is graded on what your group can produce. You are assigned the groups too so hope that your members speak English well and understand the subject otherwise your grade is already slipping. HW is also at least 10% of your grade so keep up on. The tests are a mad dash to get as much partial credit as you can because it is rare that a major problem will receive full credit. Also about 10% of each test is based of off random facts that were talked about in lecture so make sure you remember every minuscule detail of every video or online source. Also, i would agree with many of the other assessments that say that she treats the class like it were a second grade class. I think she would be much better as a second grade teacher as well. Your grade is based on hw (10%), classwork + pop quizzes (10%), quizzes (10%), 2 midterms (30%), and cumulative final (30%). Most importantly your grade is based off of how bad the rest of the class does, each test had a flat curve of at least 20% applied to it so that the class was not all getting lower than C's. I was surprised to get the grade i did, I thought that i would scrape by with a B. Grade Received: A-

This teacher understands this class so well (or so it seems) that she has little to no idea how to convey to her students how to understand it. This material is difficult stuff to grasp and I can say that in my seventh week of being in it she has taught me little to none about the subject. ALWAYS ALWAYS take any workshops or study sessions because it isn't going to be somethig you grasp right away. If you can do not take her. Grade Received: D+

Faltens is a pretty lousy professor. She admitted in class that she thinks second grade teachers are the best type of teachers and teaches her class like it is second grade. Her tests are NOT represenative of the homework or anything she goes over in class. The homework is sometimes easy and sometimes hard, but they don't teach you anything you need to know for the test. She spends all class time teaching you basic concepts (why does aluminum float?), so going to class is pretty much a waste of time. She also apparently loves some teaching technique called "think, pair, share" which is where you get homo with the person sitting next to you and are supposed to discuss some topic she gives you. The class and material could be interesting and useful to engineering students, but the way she teaches and structures the class it makes it absoutely useless and horrendously boring. For having a PhD she sure acts like she was still back teaching 2nd grade. Avoid her if possible, but you won't have much choice because she often teaches the only section of MTE207. Took this class in Winter '08, her first time teaching it. Overall, wasn't hard. She is fairly picky about the lab reports and pretty slow grading them and giving them back. I never knew my grade for the class the entire quarter. Didn't learn much from her, taught myself everything I needed to know from the text book. Labs themselves are easy, just time consuming, she'll help you perform the labs - which actually isn't saying much since its just simple testing of materials. Has final exam based solely on labs, do the lab and remember everything, you'll be fine. Oral presentation on material selection project, she had us in front of a camera and her other class there to watch us. She really likes to use Google Docs to share lab data. Grade scale as follows: Reports - 50%, Presentation - 10%, Material Selection Paper - 20%, Exam - 20%. Decent professor, nice and cares whether students like her or not. I wouldn't take her again though. Grade Received: B+
