Very nice teacher
Cons: Teacher is late
No point system can affect your grade tremendously
I feel like she choose favorites throughout the class and she would only give good grades to them
If your good at public speaking then this is a easy class for you to where all you have to do is suck up to the teacher a little and deliver a confident speech otherwise i would not suggest taking the class .If you are not comfortable in a speaking in front of a class she is not going to help you improve your speaking skills .
nice and approachable
Cons: came late every single class
First off Professor Franko is a very nice person. She is very friendly and I am glad to have taken her class. She was kind enough to place her own textbook in the library for students so we didn't have to purchase/ rent one. There are 1 informative speech, and 2 persuasive speeches, 3 hw assignments and 1 final (50 multiple choice/ True false q's). She came late to almost every single class since my class was the first class she taught every morning and so parking was tough since the class started at 9:15 am. In the beginning it was annoying since she came about 10-15 mins late every time, but then as the quarter went on the whole class caught on and everyone just began to show up late as well so YAY shorter lecture.... but then it came near time for the final so everyone was stressed and was annoyed about how we were expected to pass the final when she came late everyday. Then 2 wks before the final she announced half the final would be take home since we would need the Final exam day to finish up speeches that were pushed day after day since she was always late. So in the end it all worked out!!
Overall she is a great professor. She doesn't mind helping you out with your speech. You can send in your outline the day before you speak and she will review the whole thing for you and tell you if your missing anything.
-Really easy to pass the class
-Lets you choose your own topics
-Posts everything on blackboard
Cons: -Nearly impossible to get an A
-Always late to class
-Kept us after the final to do presentations
-Not a debate class but a speech class
-No point system
My thoughts regarding professor Franko are somewhat confusing. I like her as a person but dislike her as a teacher. She is a very nice person who is very understanding and will excuse absences with good reason. However, she does not use a point system in the class, which leads me to think that she just gives students whatever grade she feels they deserve without looking too much into their past work. I felt as if she would give students a good grade if she liked them and vice versa for if she does not. However, she is very fair with the class. She lets us choose whatever topic we want to present and has us do a problem speech and a solution speech about that topic. She then has us chose another student's topic to refute their position for the last speech. It is really easy to get a B on the speeches but I only know one person who got an A. She does not give solid grades but gives grades like A/A- or B+/B which can be very confusing when computing our own grade. I got a B/B- for the first speech and an A-/B+ on the second speech. I do not know what I got for my refutation speech because it was scheduled for the final day and she did not have enough time to grade it and give it back. Each speech has to be done with an outline that must be turned in. A huge chunk of the speech grade is based on the outline and the works cited page so one must make sure they write that out well to get a good grade. I would definitely recommend this professor for students looking to pass this GE but I do not recommend her for students looking for an A in the class. She also gave us three take-home quizzes which were fairly easy. The majority of the grade relies on the speeches she gives. She also gave us a 50 question final which was not too bad. Grade received: B+
Cons: She showed up 15 minutes late to an hour long class every day. She is very unorganized and it gets frustrating. She grades pretty harsh on speeches.
Don't need the book. Overall, I would prefer not to take her again, but if I had to I wouldn't be completely upset. Grade Received: B
Cons: She is really unorganized and not to mention late to class all the time. Her grading scale is weird and makes no sense. She tends to pick favorites in her class. Her homework hardly makes sense. She counts attendance.
She a nice person, but bot so great of a professor.3 speeches total for the quarter, along with homework and take home quizzes. The final is in class. The course is easy overall, you dont learn much in class its common sense. If you dont like speaking in public this is the class to take because its where they do the less amounts of speeches. I bs the homework and got good grades most of the time but she always gives two grades on all assignments. I recommend the class just for the easy grade not for the learning experience lol
Grade Recieved: B
She gives almost everyone a good grade on presentations
Only gives 3 quizzes
Cons: There really arent any cons
I think she is a great teacher. She makes sure that we understand what we are arguing and how to make arguments and counter-arguments and allows us to ask her all the questions we need and she gives us her feedback about our presentations grades us fairly easy.
Cons: lots of in class assignments, dont skip
