Pros: Easy project
Cons: 1. Hard to understand her lecture (strong accent)
2. Very boring
3. Tests are hard
4. Curves out of three sections
AND SO MUCH MORE
definitely dont recommend her
First, she doesnt allow her students to use notecards during the exam. Maybe she allowed that previous quarters but not anymore.
Second, literally only three or four students paid attention to her during lecture. She has a strong accent and her voice is monotone. Most of the students did not bother to listen to her
Third, her tests are hard compared to her lecture. In addition, she gives out the worst study guide that i have ever received in my life (just few word problems from the textbook). You really need to study for her test
Fourth, she curves the test out of her three sections. This is worse than not giving out the curve.
By the way, for the first midterm class average was 68 and she said its terrific. She really meant that.
CPP seriously need another professor for acc 311. She might be okay for 207/208 but for higher division courses such as 311, we need a professor who actually can TEACH.

Pros: NONE!! stay away from her
Cons: She has a heavy Chinese accent and does not know how to teach. She is the worst Accounting professor. She uses other professors Tests, she does not know the material herself. The worst part is she will not curve or give you any points even if you prove to her you are correct.
Stay away from her, you think Pak is bad she worst than Pak. At least Pak understands and curves she wont even do that, so you can fail the class with a 69.8 percent that right she screwed me over. Stay away from her.

Pros: None
Cons: Hard to understand
Does not know the material herself
I agree with the two comments below. She is not a good professor at all. I have heard good things about her but at the lower 207 level. At 312 she is terrible. She does not even understand the material herself and she sometimes gets mad if you correct her. As she does the examples on the board she has the teachers book guiding her on the answer. Its like shes teaching straight from the book. She will also ask students occasionally if shes correct because she does not know herself. Her accent is also hard to understand and the class is extremely boring. She does not know how to engage students and make the subject interesting. For this class, basically you teach yourself and you need to know the material very well especially IFRS. She loves to test on that and will make you solve a problem on it for the exams.
Her exams are half multiple choice and half problem solving. The funny part is that the whole point of having problem solving is to remove it from the multiple choice but even the multple choice has problem solving. Her test are extremly long because of this and you will not have enough time to finish and will need to rush.
I would say Dr. Pak is better than her. He may be more difficult but at least you can be confident that he know the materal. With her, I have to double check everything she says with the book. Dont just go off her lectures or powerpoints because she doesnt know the materal well and will make a lot of mistakes.
Bottom line, She sucks! Take someone else if you can. She also doesnt curve so goodluck.

Pros: None
Cons: Cannot understand student questions
Questions whether she knows the material
Does not write her own tests
Oddly structured reading assignments
I'm currently in the class and am not liking it one bit. I have had no difficulty acing other accounting courses including 311 with Dr. Hefzi but this is a different game. I don't understand why she is teaching an intermediate course which is clearly out of her league. Students are constantly correcting her and she has trouble explaining herself. I feel she doesn't write her own tests and that is unfair since she does not have the capacity to prepare you for someone else's exam. As with any accounting course you must read the book but unlike other courses where you can seek clarification by asking questions in class, you cannot do so with her because she won't undersatnd your question or she will have trouble explaining. The amount of material in this course is massive and since she cannot tell you which topics to focus on you're pretty much screwed for the tests. Her quizzes are also weird with respect to the content. For example you will have a quiz on chapter 7 and halfof chapter 8 then the next quiz will be on half of chapter 8 and all of chapter 9. She is a nice lady and would do well teaching 207 or 208 to 1st and 2nd year students but for upper division students who are serious about the major, this is unacceptable. I hope we can convince her to make the tests open book or that she will at minimum lower the percentage value of the tests.

Pros: none
Cons: hard to understand
pop quiz
hard exams and quizzes
She has no idea how to teach 312. She did not even understand the material herself and would often ask students to explain it. She also is very hard to understand with her Chinese accent. Her quizzes and exams are tough - I doubt she can even pass her own tests. What makes it even harder is the way she words her questions. It is almost as if she designs the test to be extremely challenging/difficult just to impress the 10yr. staff - as if to prove she can handle teaching 312. If you want to pass this class you'll have to teach yourself. You'll have to read and understand the material fully to the point you could teach it to a classmate without looking at any references (no joke). At times she'll even confuse the class more because of her own uncertainties on the material. She makes ridiculous comments and thinks she's funny - but no, she's not. While She comes off as nice, and maybe so, she's still all business. She gives quizzes at the very beginning of class, sometimes starts before the actual class time. Did I mention she does not inform which days quizzes will be given. She does not let you take the quiz if you're late because of parking, being held back by previous class, etc.
Maybe you'll be lucky and she'll improve from the time I had her, and actually learn the material. If not, GOOD LUCK!

Pros: I really enjoyed this class. All homework was through an online accounting program, which you could correct over and over till you get 100%. During lecture, she goes over the 3 problems that will be on each test (along with multiple choice that can get tricky if you don't understand). She lets you use a notecard in which you can write as much information as you want. Her attendance/homework is worth 21% of your grade, so make sure you do well on those to easily raise your grade!
Cons: She did have a thick acent, but you can understand her.

Pros: 1 notecard cheat sheet

very friendly professor
Cons: strong accent
tests can be a bit challenging
worst part about this class was the accent, other than that this was a great class. it's mainly online homeworks, 3 tests, and 1 project. the homework is easy, because they can be redone infinite times till you get the perfect score. the project initially is seems intimidating, but is reality it's actually real easy after she gets you running. theres a sample project you can just base your data off of. the first 2 tests are not cumulative and only cover what was taught prior to the test. also for all her tests you are allowed 1 notecard to write whatever you want on it. all 3 tests are comprised of about 30-50 multiple choice then 3 written questions. i got a C+ in the class, but i blame myself for procrastination and not taking advantage of the extra credit she offers. every class she asks questions and if you answer them you can earn extra credit which i highly recommend you take advantage of. overall, i would recommend this class to other students, because i hear other classes give much more work.

Pros: She allows you to use notecards on the exams (which you'll need because you won't learn anything in her class).
Cons: Grading on the project is ridiculous. She takes away points for the stupidest things.
You can barely understand her. I cringe every time she says "dividends".
Adds random assignments/ projects during the quarter on top of everything else we have to do.
I tried giving her the benefit of the doubt but this class sucks. She clearly knows accounting but doesn't know how to teach it. I've become skeptical about the hiring process for professors at Cal Poly recently because I've had too many professors that don't know what they're doing in a class. I would just avoid accounting all together at Cal Poly and take it at a JC over the summer because accounting at this school is too much. And don't get me started on the lab.

Class consists of participation points which earns you extra credit. Roll is taken when the majority of class is not present. There are two midterms and one final--you're allowed a cheat card for the second midterm and final. The exams consist of either multiple choice, fill in the blank, true/false, short answer, and problem solving. As long as you study and do the homework, the exams will be easy. There aren't any trick questions. She provides a study guide.
Homework is given weekly via Connect. Do them and you'll know how to do the problems on the exams. There are two projects; both very easy points, so do them! She makes class funny by adding her quirky jokes. She's nice and although she has an accent, she'll try her best to help you understand. I wish she would teach ACC312 and ACC313! Grade Received: A

good teacher. she really knows accounting very well. Accounting is not easy, you have to actually pay attention and read. If you actually read, you will get a good grade in this class. I got a B with not too much studying. If you dont show up or read, dont expect a good grade because you will not pass. You actually have to understand the concepts to pass. that is not just for this teacher that is for accounting in general. Her tests are very straight forward

Cons: Slightly hard to understand but it's not too bad.
I didn't do well in this class because i'm lazy, but she assigns homework and then puts homework type problems on the tests. So, know how to do your problems. There's a lot of reading, make sure you understand the material and ask questions if you don't. It's not a hard class but it is a lot of work.

Not the best communicator, strong accent, but is nice and she does try hard. She knows accounting very well but sometimes has trouble trying to pass the knowledge on to students. All three tests in my class had averages below 70, but show up and do somewhat well on all the assignments/quizzes and you should be fine. Don't half ass the group project either, its an easy grade and every point is valuable in this class. I wouldn't recommend this teacher but the class is definitely passable if you put in some effort. This is the first time I've ever graded a teacher. I had to grade her because I didn't want anyone to go through what I did. She's very bad at teaching. 70 percent of her class failed all her midterms. The class average was mid 50s? On top of that she doesn't curve. She lets you use notes on the midterm which is very nice of her. She also doesn't give courtesy points on the final project. As if this class isn't hard enough, do you really need to deduct points for tiny flaws in a project? Thanks for your class, Nancy. I won't be taking your class next quarter. Grade Received: D

She doesn't know how to teach. Also, her teaching is not organized at all. You have to study all the material before the exam on your own, otherwise, you will fail. During the exam, she passes out the exam papers "one by one" walking slowly from one side of the classroom, when the other side gets the paper, at least 5 minutes passes. There are lots of questions in a short time, so time is very precious and not adequate during the exam. She assigns the "group project" at the beginning of the quarter, but one third of the clas dropped before the due date of project. So, if your group members just "disappear", you have to handle the "whole" project by yourself one week before due date. You will have a hard time if you choose her class.

The trend seems to be that professors in the ACC dept have accents and clearly spoken ones are hard to come by. I would definitely NOT recommend this chick if you have trouble learning/paying attention to someone that is hard to understand. Furthermore, some people had trouble asking her questions because she didn't necessarily understand exactly what they were asking her.
Overall, she is nice and TRIES. But I'm sorry, I don't want a professor that has to try, I want one that can get up there and teach me what I need to be taught.
Her lectures are not organized and her tests are half multiple choice and half "problem-solving". She does allow cheat sheets for the midterm, but most of the class still failed despite this.
Last thing, there is a group project which isn't hard but ever so slightly time consuming, but mostly annoying. You pick a company and have to print out their annual report and answer questions based on the data in there.
}I did know someone in this class who passed, don't know how . . maybe just good with numbers. If you have a gift with numbers and can read the book to learn . . then, sure take her.

AVOID HER, if you want to learn and be treated fairly then do not take her!!! everything in her class is very confusing! she keeps changing her mind about wat to teach in her class. The grading policy is a mess. when I ask, she said that she uses her own judgement; and she keeps making mistakes about the example problems that she goes over in class plus she can't explain well in English which makes it really really hard to understand what is the right answer; or she probably did not know wat was the right answer. also, she's very DEFENSIVE, so be careful w/ ur questions. I totally agree with the first person; and I wonder if she wrote the second comment there for herself?!! b/c "last but not least" seems too formal for grd calpoly comments. I don't know how she got her degree and especially who hired her??? grade received: B-

Dr. Fan is very knowledgeable and very friendly. She does her best to suit her students' needs. She teaches by the book and uses the book examples for lectures, so if you don't understand anything from the reading she will explain it. Exams were not that difficult, material is whatever she goes over with in class. Try and attend her class as often as you can for test/quiz material reasons which are covered in class, she likes to throw in jokes and some fun activities to make class more fun to go to.
Last but not least...her English is not the best but it is understandable. Dr. Fan even jokes that she is working on her English speaking and writing skills. If you've had any other professors in the accounting department, a professor with good English is hard to come by. Grade Received: A
