Easy quizzes
Cons: Disorganized lessons
Fuqua's senior seminar is a fairly easy class. We have about 10 quizzes in which are student-generated questions from the readings, as long as you do the readings, there's no reason to ace all the quizzes. Students will prepare a class long lecture through one of the childhood developmental issues she has you read from the text. It's really the exams where she become too laidback. It didn't seem she took her time to prepare for the exam instructions, but the exams are easy. Students here should have the mindset of learning, not easing their way out through easy exam questions.
The class is design to prepare students to construct their own lesson plan to teach a class session. They will create quizzes and discussion questions for the class to participate in. She does some teaching in the early quarter, then the rest will be taught by group presentations by students.
Anyways, come to class everyday, there will be quizzes almost every class session. Overall, its an easy class, I just wish it was more productive in terms of variety.
She seems like a nice and understanding person, although comes off as condescending and scatter brained. I know that when it comes to developmental, the choice professor is hard to come by. However, if you are an organized person like I am and prefer a clear outline of what should be accomplished, then frustration with the objectives will likely result. It is lack of concision and information that ruined developmental entirely for me.
Dr. Fuqua is an amazing professor and I recommend this class to everyone. There were two midterms and a final. Each midterm is about 30 multiple choice and 5/6 open ended questions. A lot of questions on the test come from the book, lecture, and both so make sure to do the reading. I like the fact that she mentions what parts of a chapter to read so you don't waste your time reading material that is not important. The class is about child development from 0-5 years and a few chapters are about pregnancy/labor. We took one quiz during the entire quarter and it was about 10 questions and counted for two pts. (Just a practice quiz for the exam) the class is only worth 152 pts so make sure to not lose points on stupid errors! Overall the class is great and so is she! Lastly, she's always at her office hours ready to help anyone with questions.
Easy homework.
Tests are easy as long you attend class.
Cons: Lectures aren't detailed.
Easy teacher and class. You have a group presentation on current adolescent issues, an easy A as long as you show up and talk related ideas about the topic. One paper on interviewing a teenage adolescent, another easy assignment as long as you follow the the guidelines in writing the paper. Exams are mostly based on her lecture, although some do refer to the book, but this does not mean to disregard the textbook. If you want to pass, read the textbook. Her exams do include some short answer questions.
Cons: Naturally a confusing class
Overall, this was a very good class, especially with Dr. Fuqua. She was very approachable if you didn't understand something and would really go out of her way to explain things more than your average teacher. Her bright and peppy attitude always makes class time great, she tells great stories that always relate back to Research Methods. She breaks the term paper down into Parts, so you don't feel so overwhelmed with writing this huge monster paper. She offers extra credit to those who turn in Chapter Notes when taking the exams, she really encourages you to start looking at research ideas and mapping them out independent from the class because she wants you to be excited about it. Which, after taking her class, you will be once you do a few test runs. I never thought that I would be a Research Psychologist, but after taking this class and seeing how handy that skill will be, I may have to split into a Clinical Research Psychologist :) Exam 1 was interesting, not hard, but gets you to think because of the Written portion of the test. Exam 2 was Optional in case you didn't like your first grade, and the Final was Cumulative but still rather short, not your standard 100 questions. Also, the textbook was surprisingly interesting to read, which is both scarey and exciting since it's rare that you find a textbook that is That Interesting. In the end, it was a great class, especially with Dr. Fuqua. Grade: B
Cons: Survey for a project, light in practical research application.
Dr. Fuqua is a very friendly person, and she makes time to help her students outside of her classes even though she is very busy. This class was pretty good in terms of basic methodology especially if you take the time to read the book. Her power points are good, and it is best to download them for future reference or to study for the exams. She gets a little off topic in class sometimes, so just make sure you are on top of your reading and you will do fine. The project is based on a survey, so it doesn't really give you experience with designing your own study. If you want to do that, ask her about joining her research team.
Before blaming it on her not teaching well, ask yourself did you prepare for class? This is not high school 2.0. You have to read and do homework in order to succeed. Psy 307 and Psy 433 is much harder. She is not the best prof ever but she deserved a fair review. I am sure she is willing to improve if you guys (the negative reviewers) told her what are your concerns. When are people going to realize college takes work and effort? Grade Received: B-
As for the test as long as you do the reading you will do fine. She allow you to drop one test score. How is that not helpful? There are also extra credit!!! Did that person miss a lot of class? She is one of the best prof in CPP! Grade Received: A
