Pros: Curved grades
Simple end-of-the-quarter project
Takes attendance into account for your final grade
Cons: Doesn't know anything about MyAccountingLab so don't bother asking him
You basically teach yourself
I caught on quickly during the lectures if I were to lightly read the chapter beforehand. If Plouffe thinks he's going to like you, he'll pick on you with his no nonsense attitude but just accept the fact that he knows your name (it will benefit you!).
Two midterms, one final; the final is cumulative. I completely bombed Midterm #2 with a D and I don't even want to know what I got on the final but I still got the A I wanted because of participation so go to class and read the material! You can't learn everything by going to the lectures!

Pros: You will learn a lot purely due to repetition
Cons: Tons of homework
Tests VERY difficult (w/ no curve)
He makes you feel like trash
This teacher is very Difficult! I definitely do not recommend taking Plouffe for 207. There are several teachers out there where you can put half as much effort into the class and get a much better grade. There is a ton of homework, tests are extremely difficult, and the final project takes forever. You will not succeed unless you put in 8 hrs of studying a week. On top of that, the teacher is a jerk. He berates you if you ask the wrong questions in class, and makes you feel stupid. I spent so much time for this class, and could not wait until it was over. Grade Recieved: A

Great teacher, knows what he is talking about and has real life examples to tie everything into. Sometimes it may seem he's asking for a lot, but all of his small homework assignments and quizzes are directly reflected on his exams. I highly reccommend him over other options if possible!

Cons: This profeesor is extremely arrogant and seems to not really like teaching his students. Half of the class consisted of him lecturing off powerpoints, and the other half he had students teaching the hmwk. His midterm and final were completely hand-written, and the material covered did not reflect what was "taught" in class.
If there is another professor, try to avoid him at all costs.

He said he'd retired after this quarter (Spring 2010) but in case he doesn't, here's a review. He doesn't feel like an overly friendly professor, but he does have good shortcuts that he teaches to help. There's one research paper that he mentions once in the beginning of the quarter but never again, so be wary of the due date on it. Straight forward homework, quizzes, midterms, finals. All relevant to what he has taught. He doesn't give study guides, but he will tell you what's on the final. He gives A LOT of extra credit, just volunteer to answer questions. I expected a solid B for his class, but received an A instead. Grade Received: A

This professor doesn't care about teaching at all. Anyone who says he is a good teacher has to be crazy. All the tests are trick questions. The homework is from the book and he never goes over the answers unless you beg him. Then if you ask a question he will get very upset. Likes to think of himself as bigshot. Someone needs to tell him this is Cal Poly not Harvard. Grade Received: B+

This guy is a joke. Don't take him if you can. He is lazy and very full of himself. He assigns homework from the book and then doesnt give you the answers. His tests are all trick questions and have nothing to do with the homework. If you ask a question, he gets upset and makes rude remarks. Overall, the worst teacher i have ever had at Cal Poly. I really would have liked to learn more from this class but he teaches exclusively from the publishers ppts and the homework is much more difficult than the basic problems presented in the ppts. He goes over the homework in class on the day it's due so you are forced to beat your head against the wall and try to reason out the problems from the material in the book (which is difficult to process as well). His tests are extremely difficult too. Every test took 3 hours and no one finished early. Some only finished half of the problems. When the teacher does go over the homework or the tests, he tries to get through it as quickly as possible, and if you stop him and ask a question, he literally scoffs at you and groans. Very unprofessional. He's also very full of himself and feels the need to boast sometime during every class. It's sad really because I do believe he is a great cost manager, just a poor teacher. ok normally I don't review the professors, but I had to rate Dr. Plouffe. I couldn't just seat here and let all these people talk smack about him. So far he is one of the best accounting professors I've had. He is very knowledgeable in the subject and teaches what is useful after college (he is a part-time professor and practices accounting). Personally his test were not that difficult, you just had to pay attention to his lectures and take notes down the the key points he talks about off of the PowerPoint. One of the best things about his class was that he set a very casual and easygoing environment. He is extremely friendly and very helpful when you ask him a question. The people that are crying about how much of a hard ass Dr. Plouffe is should try to take some accounting classes with some of the other accounting professors. Compared to the others he is far better. If he is teaching upper division accounting classes I would take him again. Grade Received: A

The man really seems to understand what he is talking about... the only problem is that nobody else does. He explains very little about what he is doing in the example problems that he does. If you ask him to explain something he'll respond sarcastically with "I don't know." Easy class to pass: just turn in your homework (he barely even looks at it, if you turn in something that looks vaguely like homework you get credit for the assignment) and come to class. My class's average on the new common final exam was 23.7% and it was a multiple choice test - which means that a bunch of chimpanzees picking random letters could have done just as well. I'd advise taking a different teacher. Grade Received: C

NOT RECOMENDED!!! DO NOT TAKE HIM. He was a lazy person, and every time when we took his exams and asked him about the questions we were not clear in his exams, and he did not explain to u and u should guess what the questions ask for by yourself. This was the reason most of our classmates lost their points in their exams. His class is not difficult, but you will not learn anything in his class. Just avoid his class, otherwise you will regret. NOT RECOMENDED!!! He just needs to be re-trained as a teacher. His teaching skills are not good at all. I recomend not to take him. try to help yourself some hard times. His test are nothing close to what he tought in class, so really you end up guessing half of the test. At the end, you feel like you don't even know what you have learned. DO NOT TAKE HIM. There are 5 20-question multiple choice tests, a group case analysis/paper, and a final. Tests are difficult because the concepts were not covered/clarified during class time. Plouffe reads off the publisher's powerpoint slides and makes the students feel like idiots when they don't understand something. If you plan on going to his office hours, be prepared for him to repeat parts of your conversation in front of the class. Respect and privacy definitely are a problem with this professor. Tests will be killers so make sure you go to class EVERY DAY (attendance counts) to get particpation points and boost your grade. Key to an A: read, read, read, then read some more. Do the homework problems again and take the publisher's online tests. The website should be on the back cover of the text. Grade Received: A

His tests (there are 5 midterms and 1 final) are insanely hard. But you can pass the class as long as you show up for class everyday (his lecctures are boring but attendance is apart of your final grade and every point adds up trust me), you do the homework (he goes over the homework in class so you can copy all that and turn it in and he'll give you credit for it), participate (he calls on people for the answers for the homework and as long as you try he gives you credit for it no matter how wrong your answer it, trust me my answers were completely wrong and he still gave me credit. And he doesn't berate you either he even helps you with answering it), do your group paper (its an easy paper in the end i think he gave everyone in the class full points for the paper) and get some points on the tests. I believe my overall test grade in that class was a 50 and I passed with a C. He curves which is great. Overall he is hard and you won't understand what he's talking about but he's a really nice guy.

There are about 6 quizes total, the first 5 are about 25 questions each, then the last quiz is the final which is cumalitive of the whole course and is 75 questions. 50% of your grade is doing the homework, 1 group project, and attending class. 31.5% of your grade is the first 5 quizes, 18.5% of your grade is the last quiz which is the final.
}Quizes are very hard, you must memorize each chapter or read each chapter 5 times completely to even understand the quiz.
}Everyone did bad in that class. He is friendly, but his lectures are boring as hell and dont even relate to the quiz. The quizes are all M/C.

He knows a lot about accounting but his techniques of teaching is hard to understand. I guess if u are an accounting major then u will get it. There are 5 tests and a final. There is a group project paper to do. This class is really hard. overall i passed one test with a D and the rest with 55% or below. Dont waste time, look at the cd rom. The website might help a little. dont study too much because you are most likely to be disappoint when u get ur tests. stuffs from lectures are not really appear on tests. Take other teachers if you have a choice. I regereted for not taking Jacob Kevin. He is hard but im pretty sure that he is not this hard.

This is a really really hard accounting class. Read the book, go to class, do the homework, study for the test. Non of that shit work. The stuffs on the test is not the same as what he teach in class. Doing the stuffs on the CD rom don't help much either. To keep it simple, don't take him if U want to pass. There is 5 midterms, and one final. I have fail all my midterms. As the class avg on the midterms are less than 60%. That is when U know the teacher have teaching ability. The funny thing, is that he have been teaching for over 20 years and the test avg are less than 60%. I have taken a Acccounting class before, at a community college and what i learn there, don't apply here. Don't get me wrong, he know his stuffs but he is just such a horrible teacher. Those 2-3 students who do good in his class are in accounting major. SO DON'T TAKE HIM. U WILL FAIL HORRIBLE. NO MATTER HOW MUCH U STUDY, THE OUTCOME IS THE SAME, F.

I had one of the worst experiences with Professor Plouffe's ACC 207 class. I'm a very hard-working student who came to his class everynight. However, his tests are NOTHING like his lectures. The homework he assigns to be done are completely DIFFERENT from the tests. I am not kidding either. You think he'll be a great professor on the first week because he looks like he's very educated. However, please be warned now - his tests will kill you. Everyone in the class complained about how different they were. Hardly anyone got an A - only those who are accountants. Plus, Plouffe does not want to hear if you have questions. I got a C in this class and that was just HOPING not to fail.

i don't know about this guy....he was pretty nice but he goes really fast, and most of the time the class was pretty confused. he scaled the tests but it didn't help much, i think most of the class was failing. overall i guess he's better than any of the other options for acc207.
