Pros: Easy assignments
Cons: Midterm can be tricky
He likes students to participate and gives you point everytime you say the correct answer.
Assignments are a chapter summary (Not hard just summarize what you read, or write definitions)
Group project about a company (he makes the groups, presentation at the end of quarter)
Individual Manager interview
He is alright, class was not too hard if you read the book you should be able to get at least a B

I thought his class was great. There were one page summaries due almost each class day. He had three tests but they were all online and had a reasonable time limit. There was one paper where you had to interview a manager. Grammar and punctuation need to be good on your papers or he will take points off. There is one big project for the whole quarter where he puts people in groups and then they choose a company to evaluate. He did curve the participation grade at the end of class. It is very important to show up for his class every day and participate by answering questions. You can get a negative participation grade in his class if you are absent a lot.

Leffern is probably one of the best professors I have had at CPP.
Awesome personality
He has a lot of experience and applies it to the class, providing you with useful information
The workload seems to be a lot but is manageable, especially if you are interested in management.
He takes attendance seriously and you must participate.
Often does little role playing skits that are very fun and useful
You have a reading summary (1 pg) due every class lecture
3 online take home tests
1 manager interview paper (5-10 pgs)
1 group paper (20 pgs)

He is a very good teacher. His classes are hard and expects a lot of work. But this is because he wants students to learn, it was a very positive experience. Read the book, do what he asks and you can do well. Grade Received: A-

He's knowledgeable about management, though the lectures are pretty dry. He could stand to be a little more friendly and approachable. One thing is great: he follows the syllabus to the letter. He didn't stray from it once. You know exactly what to expect with him. In fact, we finished early (the last day of the 10th week.) You need to have a good group because the whole class, outside of two case studies (you do those on your own), focuses on a simulation game. He takes this game very seriously and it is a big part of your grade. At first, I didn't like the game, but it gets addictive. You will have to meet outside of class with your group to work on the game. Lastly, he strongly encourages class participation. I suupose there could be better professors, but he gets the job done. I thought that Von Leffern was a really reasonable guy. The presentations that you make in class were straight from the book and really easy to research. The tests were pretty easy if you read through the chapter and took the online quizzes. He also curved them a little bit. If you just show up to class and participate, you'll be just fine. This professor really need to just quit this job and be a full time banker! And if you still want to take this class,
You will have to do 3 classes amount of work from 1 class. He is also very lazy and never teach in the class, most of class time are students presentations. These presentations are very boring and you will have to show up in every class and ask students question after their presentations else he would take point off from your groups presentations. The test are very hard and sometimes he has problem understand it himself. We don't know how did he get this job, it is a shame on our education system for allowing such person in Cal poly. If you can, avoid taking him. Lots of reading. Harsh grading. He does not explain the material well and expects students to have the right answers in the test. He is very peeky about attendance, you won't get any attendance point if you don't speak in class. MHR 301 is an easy class, however, he made it so hard for students. Grade Received: B-

This guy is boring. He rambles about the job he once held in South Korea with Citigroup in every lecture. It makes you wonder if the job in Citibank is the only job he has ever held in his life. He required 3 presentations!!! Unfortunately, for my group all the presentations landed on midterms and final days. We told him about it and he did not care. He is approachable but quirky at the same time. I dont recommend him just because of the amount work involved in his class. Grade received: B

He has to be the worst instructors I ever encounter in 4 years of cal poly pomona. The way he grade students attendance is very cruel. He copied tests from somewhere else because they are not related to book or his in class lesson. He is working full time in a bank, so he was never there during office hours.Don't expect him to answer question after class, he is always too busy for you. Grade Received: D

First of all i would like to mention that although this professor is a nice individual, however this methods for teaching is rather lacking. His test got no reliverance to the books or the lectures. The test although challenging but students are not giving proper study material or knowledge. He may have the knowledge base but he is refusing it to share with the students. Besides.. business morality.. is rather like an oxymoron. He is a individual i would not recommand taking.
}Thank you

Attendance is 20 % of your grade. However, If you do not put up a good comment/question/discussion with him, your attendance will be 0. He doesn't give you attenance point every time you speak in class either, the question and comment you ask in class will need to be SIGNIFICANT COMMENT BACKED BY SUPPORTING REASON OR EVIDENCE. He gives 3 tests in class, these tests are hard and have nothing to do with the stuff he teach in class or book. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!!!

He doesn't really care about his students. Reading the book doesn't help you in the tests either. I did good on case study and perfect attendance yet got a D- in class. Only take him if u feel need to lower ur GPA. Grade Received: D

If you take this class hope you were put into a good group. The exams are hard, the wording is very hard to understand. He copies the exam from somewhere and doesnt bother to reword them. Even he has trouble understanding what the question asks. Grade Received: B

Von Leffern knows the dynamics of the business world very well. Unfortunately he does not care for his students. He is a businessman and that is his forte, not being a teacher. He demonstrates that he is too busy for his students. We are second, even third priority to him. If you are looking for a grade that is fairly easy to attain then by all means take him. Don't get me wrong; you will need to work for your grade. If you want more than a grade but an experience and knowledge to take with you then I recommend looking for a different teacher. He is a nice guy but who needs that. We need an education that will carry us through our professional career not a seminar that lasts 10 weeks. Grade Received: B+

Von Leffern was a good professor, and his syllabus was clear and concise so you know what to expect. He is relatively timely about returning assignments and exams, and although my grade factored out to a B+ he still gave me an A- (without me even asking). We took three tests (that I think get progressively harder), three papers and a group project. Unfortunatley, you do not choose your own group, and Von Lefferen tries to 'diversify' them by placing people in groups based on their gender and ethnicity. The papers must have outside research, and he loves financial analysis, so be sure to include industry comparisons in your writing. The tests are entirely from the book, so his lectures are not useful for the exams...the book is easy to understand, but usually there are about three chapters covered in the exams, which is a lot of information to retain. Overall, I would recommend him as a take for MHR 301, particuarly if you are a good writer and like to study from the book instead of from lectures. Grade Received: A-

He made the class sound very difficult at first, but the class is not too bad overall. There are four exams with mostly key terms, a group project on a aspect of management, and three short essays which are analysis of the end of the chapter case studies. The class can get boring at times, but the class is pretty straight forward if you stay on top of it. Grade Received: A-

Did good on the case studies yet recieved a low grade because the class was based on the Game. Very disappointed as I did not get any useful information from playing this game. Spent money on a textbook that we did not even need. Do not take this class. Take another teacher!!!!!!!
