Pros: Lets you turn in homework late
Very approachable after class and office hours
Her sense of humor
No book (guess that could be a con)
Potluck before finals week
Cons: A little harsh on grading but not too bad
This is the only professor you should take for 417, Amber is seriously is an INCREDIBLE Math professor. I'm not saying that because because she grades easy, or the class is an easy A (in fact its the complete opposite for both). She makes the class very enjoyable and is the sweetest person ever. With that being said don't expect to lay back and breeze through this class, its not incredibly hard but you will have to give a hell of an effort to maintain an A or B. Go to her office hours and ask questions in class, she will be more than happy to help because the homework can be pretty difficult. There is no book for the class, homework is done on worksheets she makes, 2 midterms, one final. Exams aren't as difficult as the homework thankfully but still challenging, know your definitions and do the proofs on the study sheets. I highly highly recommend Amber, you will not regret it I promise.

Best Math Professor I've had at Cal Poly so far. Made Calculus 1 so much easier than my High School AP Calculus AB dick head teacher. She makes Calculus fun.
The class is divided into 2 midterms, 1 final and Frequent Online homework. The midterms and final were easy, I would say that the online homework problems were a lot harder then the ones on the homework. I would definitely recommend this professor to anyone, because she is the best.

Pros: Great teacher. The homework is online and if you sllip up she will give you as long as in extension as you need
Cons: Unfortunately she focused more on the test for series material and not the parametric stuff. I am an engineering student so for me it would have been better to get more practice on the parametric material
Great teacher overall

She has two "mini midterms" or quizzes before your actual Midterm and Final. Fairly easy. I think 116 is the easiest math course I've ever taken because of the way she teaches, it's really easy to follow. She assigns homework on WebWorks which are really helpful when it comes to understanding your material. She grades your homework based on whether or not you did the WebWorks assignments. I got a 60% on my first mini midterm (mainly forgot that we had a mini midterm and didn't study), but got high B's on everything else. :) She is very clear and concise and she gives you lots of time to come visit her during her office hours, so take advantage of that. By far, the easiest calculus class I've ever taken. To be honest, some math classes are hard/easy based on how effective a teacher teaches their course and she makes this class so easy. Definitely take her for any math class! Grade Received: B

Pros: She is the best professor ever!
She explains everything very well and she is very nice! Her midterms were pretty easy and so was the final.
Even if you fail the first midterm you can still get an A in her class if you pass the second with an A and the final with at least a B

Amber is great. She gives homework over webwork, an online site. It's very nice, because you get unlimited attempts at the problems, and it will tell you if you are right or not. If you miss a homework assignment, you can ask for a week extension, even if it closed a couple weeks ago. A gateway quiz, about integration by parts and u-substitution. You need to get one problem of each correct to pass the class, but you get a bunch of attempts. The class is pretty easy if you passed AP calc. Amber talks about her cats a lot, and sometimes acts a little crazy, but she is a good teacher. Grade received: A

Pros: very funny, just like having your friend teach you, shows all scenarios on board step by step, very helpful.
Cons: learning curve on webwork site, must practice everything as much as possible
write everything she says , she will tell you if you don't need to write anything. go to office hours always so that she can connect with you and become friends. practice practice practice, keep list of anti derivatives, review your derivatives too.
uses website called webwork for graded homework, suggested homework is practice but highly recommended to do. there is usually one problem that wasn't covered in class so talk to her during office hours about it.
2 exams heavily based off suggested and webwork.
gateway quiz is quiz sort of a checkpoint quiz that is 3 questions based on antiderivatives it's either pass or not, if you can't pass she will give you unlimited chances to retake it.
very funny, if you get her to make jokes during class your class will succeed and will have a better relationship with her. there's a competition between her classes of the same course. more better relationship = the more fun the class will be and the more material you will cover and understand better.
she may be rushed when creating reviewers for exams so if you're a good student she may even send you the first draft to look at before anyone else.
i recommend her for any class you seem to find her teaching. her classes get filled fast and now you know why.

Pros: Great teacher. She can really make you understand the material.
Cons: The scary thing is that she gives 2 midterms and 1 final, and that's the basis of your grade.
Fanatstic teacher! I would recommend her if your willing to study and work hard for your grade. She seems kinda wacky, but honestly she is extremely nice, so never be afraid to ask her questions or go to her office hours. She grades 2 different ways, either she will just tally up all your points from the exams, or if you recieved a high grade on one of the midterms and the final, she will make that your grade and disregard the other midterm, she'll use whichever score is higher. I received a C on the first midterm, but an A on the second midterm and an A on the final and I got an A in the class.

I was fortunate enough to have her for both MAT 115 and 116. She is an extremely awesome teacher. She explained things in a way that I could understand easily, and if I ever had a question, I knew that I could ask her and she would do her best to help me out. She wants you to call her by her first name only, which was fine with me. TAKE HER CLASS!

Mat 116 is a challenging class, but Amber makes it not as challenging. I failed the first exam, but doing better on the 2nd midterm and final, I got a B-. Always do the homework, you get unlimited tries, so even if you try a problem 30 times, you get full credit. She is very helpful, and go to her office hours if you are struggling. She is a great professor and pretty much the best 116 teacher (in my opinion). Get her if you can, you won't regret it. Grade Received: B-

Rosin is a good math teacher, but not the best one I've ever had. Graph Theory was an interesting class and she did an amazing job teaching it even though she admittedly stated she has never taken a graph theory class before. However, since I was not a math major, the class was harder than a thought. I really fell for the trap from those who said that this class is easy and it's easy to earn an A. So beware: this would be a class to take if you are a math minor, but don't regard MAT 370 as an easy A class as you would regard GEs. This would be more of a moderately hard class that will require time to study, especially if math is not your background. Grade Received: B

Amber is the best math professor ever. She is one of the younger professors so she is very understanding and easy going. I enjoyed her lectures and attended her office hours often just to hang out. She has a potluck at the end of the quarter and makes Amberwiches. As far as the class goes, there are two midterms, turn in homework (not very many problems), and online homework (Webwork). Exams were very reasonable. I recommend her! Grade Received: C

I have never felt the need to make a comment about a teacher but Dr. Rosin definitely deserves my time and effort for one. She is the best math teacher you can possibly take. I advise that one should grasp the opportunity for her class because her class doesn't just fill up as quickly as it does for no reason. She is very helpful and is willing to elaborate if need be or you can go to her office hours (even though it is really crowded at times). Don't ever hesitate to ask her for help because she is always more than happy to explain it to you. Her methods of teaching are comprehensive along with her midterms and finals but you have to make an effort. You cannot slack off in this class no matter how good of a teacher she is, this class is only easy if you help yourself. GREAT TEACHER!!! Grade Received: A

She is a great professor. Her class is enjoyable and she is able to convey the material to the students in an effective manner. She explains difficult concepts in a way that the "average Joe" could understand. Her homework consists of 5 or 6 problems per assignment with a couple of computational questions and the rest being proofs. She writes up her own problems for the most part but will throw in an occasional book problem. Her homework is very difficult but she will help you out greatly if you go to her office hours. She also knows that people have a lot going on in their lives and basically let's you turn in your homework whenever you are ready to turn it in. The homework is also excellent preparation for the exams, which for the most part are not too bad. If you can do and understand the homework, you will do well enough on the exams. The exams typically consist of 2 or 3 definitions, a computational problem, a problem that asks you to give specific examples of certain things, and then the rest of the problems are proofs of theorems either that were in the book or they are theorems that are easily proven using the techniques and theorems from the book. The only thing I did not like about the class was that she never explained her grading system and what it took to get an A, B, C.... etc. All in all, she is very good and the way she teaches helps you retain a lot more knowledge than you normally would have in another class. I highly recommend her for any math class you can take her with. Grade Received: B

By far, tied for the best math instructor I have ever had (and the other one was in high school). She really cares if her students learn and puts forth a tremendous effort to help you understand the topic. The only way to fail one of her courses is to let yourself down. Every problem from the tests comes straight from a previous example in class or from the homework. If you pay attention and write down all her examples and you do the homework, you'll do just fine. The people who seem to not do well are the people who don't go to her office hours, don't do their homework, and just generally don't care. But that's their own fault. You'd never go wrong taking Amber's class. Grade Received: A

The best math professor I have ever had. This was my favorite class. Amber is amazing. Her lectures are so clear, you have to be a complete moron(and should question how you even made to this institution) not to understand. She is hilarious; her lectures are never boring. She is also very friendly and is willing to go over an entire lecture in her office until you understand the material. Her midterms are easy if you do all the homework (the suggested and the turn-in problems). For the Gateway Quiz, the only advice I can give is to LEARN the rules of differentiation. Overall, I highly recommend Amber if you really want to learn Calculus. I definitely learned a lot in this class. I got an A and this is coming from a person who has never taken calculus before. "Amby" rocks !!!! She's EASILY the youngest, and most popular of all the teachers. Her office hours are ALWAYS full of people, some not even taking her class, just former students !!!! She is MORE than willing to help in her office hours, her tests are VERY reasonable relative to other professors, and she isn't a bad lecturer, shes real nice, and will do her best to explain when a person gets lost. Comes on highest of recommendations.

Dr. Rosin is one of the best teachers at Cal Poly. She has the amazing ability to be both accesable and challanging. I have to say that MAT417/418 has prepared me well for my graduate algebra classes (as well as people who have taken classes from "better" schools like UCSD). I do have to make one modification to an earlier comment though, I'd say that "cute, pink and evil" describes her best.
}(I do wish that we covered the lattice isomorphism theorem though.. It seems important.)

Very good teacher. She knows the material, accomidates to the learning styles of her students, and basically devotes far too much time to helping her students out. If you struggle a bit in math, or math isn't your strong point, I'd recommend her. If math is your strong point, I'd still recommend her, although don't get cocky like I did, she's still a tough teacher. I recommend going to her office hours more than once. I made the mistake of not doing that, but It will really help you, even if you already know the material.
