Cons: The quizzes are timed. In other words, if you didn't read the chapter, or at least get a good look at it, you won't finish your quiz.
Professor Amy is such a personable person. She knows the material is a little dry, but she makes the best of it as much as she can. Her class is not necessarily easy, but if you come to class and pay attention, you should do fine. Occasionally, there will be a pop quiz (maybe about 3-5 at the most during the semester) and she'll take attendance randomly too. She does have an accent, but it never really bothered me. She loves to tell stories that relate to the material, and she makes a lot of effort to be avaliable outside of class. I really liked the class and would definitely recommend Ms. Amy to anyone.
Cons: She was born in China, so her english is good but her accent makes you really have to listen to her hard and pay full attention.
Sample tests and answers are given to you.
Cons: The material in this class is not easy to the non math student.
Tests are over several chapters which makes it more confusing.
Her help she offers in her office is for those who already know how to work the problems for the most part.
Gets upset if you fail her tests.
Ms. Amy is sweet and she is very knowledgable in her field. However, we are students who don't know the material and are suppose to be taught.. A couple days into the class, I heard her mumble that she does not have to teach you everything. She only goes over one of each math problem. That drove me crazy. Very frustrating! You are to teach yourself in her eyes, and come to class with any questions. She does take roll, but not like you would think. She lectures the first half of class, and makes you work one of the problems. Then comes break, followed by the last half of the class. At the end of class, you are to work another problem she went over one time. She takes this paper up that you have done your work on. She uses that for roll. She tells you it is for extra credit. So, if you just come for half of the class and leave at break, she knows. Also, by her taking the problems up we just worked left me clueless. I had nothing to look back at what I had done. I just think she needs to change this so, we are able to take it home. I personally, started asking a friend to help me. She does not like to see this either. I was able most of the time to learn moreso, from the friend than her. She does have an accent, but I didn't find that it wasa any problem for me. I just think she thinks we come to class fully knowledgable about the material. The material is not the easiest by no means. I would not recommend her because of her style of teaching. No curve in this clas whatsoever!
Cons: Hard to understand
Hard tests
Lots of abbreviations
Cons: hard to understand sometimes
Homework and connect quiz help your grade a lot.
Exams: The tests were JUST like the sample test she gives out. Work through that, and you'll do fine.
Homework: No homework, but there were in class assignments. These were given out at the end of class and were just to practice what you just learned. Super easy, but she is picky so make sure your answers look just like her examples.
Textbook: Might be good, I don't know. Shw provides powere points and lecture notes to follow along with. You DO NOT need the book so don't buy it.
Exams: pretty fair, not too hard not too easy
Homework: a few group presentations, nothing too big. except for one HUGE group presentation/paper assignment. ask around for details. not too bad if you get in a good group. you get to choose your group.
Textbook: don't buy it, you don't need it, i bought it, brought it home, sat it on my shelf, and then sold it back to the store at the end of the semester. not kidding.
Exams: all you need to do is do the review sheet, because all the answers from the test are similar
Prof. Xia is a very understanding teacher and a great person but I would NOT recommend taking her for this class.
Exams: Study the practice tests!!!
Homework: No homework, but an in-class assignment almost everyday.
She talks about China a lot and how it relates to the subject. If you want a nice and easy teacher, take her!!
Exams: Yes. First and second test were really easy. Just make sure study the sample test. However, the last one was the hardest. You really have to understand and study a LOT!.
Homework: In class assignments that you could work with your classmates.
Textbook: You can just read the notes that she put on sdrive. No point to buy the book unless you like to read.
You have to attend class or you will not understand how to do the formulas. Print off the slides before class, and take detailed notes on the formulas.
Dr. Xia is an excellent professor, though sometimes hard to understand. She warns you early to speak up if you don't understand. She has the longest office hours of any professor I have had, and will go over any material with you.
I would not hesitate to take any of her classes
Homework: The Homework were over formula's discussed in class in class.
Exams: The first test I got a 72 on and for me I wasn't very happy with that, but I figured its only the first test. She told the class that the average on the first text was like a C or D, and she said "I think thats pretty good" (I don't think the average being a D is good). What was cool though is she let the test we had the lowest grade on count for half (Would have been 100 points, she made it for only 50 points)
Homework: 4 Homework assignments, but they were very good preparation for her tests (especially the problem section). For the Multiple choice part of her tests, you need to read the PowerPoints and notes she gives out. They will help you on the tests.
Textbook: I never opened the book. She told us the first day we would use it, but I never did. Between the Excel, Word and PowerPoints, that was plenty to help with the homework and tests. I would save the money and not buy the book.
Exams: Not hard if you study the material
Homework: 4 homeworks that are the math part of the test
Exams: She gave as much partial credit as she could. It's a hard class and she realizes it, so she helps.
Homework: We had 4 homework assignments worth 30 points each. She dropped the lowest grade.
Textbook: I don't think I used it at all, so I would avoid it. Everything you need will be from the notes in class.
Exams: Easy if you study the sample quizes that she gives you the answers to.
Homework: 4 homework assignments. 2 excel and 2 are not. Homework was pretty difficult
