 So, Phil actually says in his syllabus that he's perceived as "a hardass". I never found that to be the case. You need to do the work. He's not interested in excuses. I made some pretty bold statements in papers I wrote and those statements were met with "I'm glad you have a stance instead of coasting through life". He's fair with grading. I'd gladly take classes from him again.
