I took her 3rd year Russian literature course in 1967. She was highly belligerent, blaming students who had trouble with the language. She herself was not fluent in Russian, speaking instead a bookish, pre-rehearsed Russian derived from the assigned readings. She never forgave me for dropping her Soviet literature course in translation. She clashed repeatedly with 2 other Russian-language instructors, so much so that they left Wash. U. for another university, as did I. She appeared to have serious emotional issues stemming from WW2, which were not addressed while I knew her. I could not help feeling sorry for her despite her frequent outbursts and vindictive, sadistic behavior. She must have suffered greatly from Nazi savagery during her childhood in Europe. I forgive her all over again as I write these lines.
