I’ve never met him, but he was my son’s professor. I gained much respect for this man through hearing about him through my son.

Pros: He drops 1 exam
Cons: No homework.
A really great professor who knows his stuff, he wants you to make an A and makes it possible with curves and bonus. You have to read your book and study a lot.

Pros: No Homework!
Cons: SInce there's no homework you really have to study on your own and his tests are soooooo difficult. He's very tricky but he lets you know ahead of time what kind of tricks he might use.
GO TO OFFICE HOURS. He also says you must study 2 hours a day to get an A in the class and it's absolutely true. If you don't have two hours a day to study, don't expect an A in the class

Pros: WAY better than Gelder! He provides optional tutoring every week where HE is the tutor..GO TO THAT! He likes answering questions so you can always understand what is going on if you just ask. He tells you how to succeed in his class, do it!
Cons: Very difficult. He expects a lot out of you and, in fun, kinda makes fun of you. But he is still the best at OSU.
I made the mistake of taking Rockley for granted for 1314. I didn't go to help or tutoring, I didn't do the problems out of the book. I got a C. Then I took 1515 with Gelder. Worked 20-40 hours a week on chemistry for that class, went to tutoring (but since it was TAs instead of him it was not very helpful), and I made a C. What is better working your but off to make a C or working your but off to make an A or B? Choose Rockley.

Pros: Is very enthusiastic about teaching. If you take the time, you will actually be able to learn the material and will prepare you greatly for future classes
Cons: His tests were extremely, extremely hard. It takes 30+ hours of studying each week

Pros: Is exceedingly willing to help with those whom he likes (kind of a crap-shoot). Despite this, Dr. Rockley is exceptional at chemistry, at is exceptionally good at teaching the fundamentals to those who are willing to learn. Even if you're not his buddy, if you go to class and do the massive amount of work required to understand the nature of this innately difficult course, then you will succeed, and furthermore, you will come out thinking every other class you ever take is easy compared to 1314/1515 with Rockley.
Cons: Is exceedingly petty with those he dislikes; no real discernable way to gain favor with him, you can fail every test and be a favorite, or you can be at the top of the class and he'll pick on you.

Dr. Rockley really did a 180 from my 1314 class to his next semesters 1515. Last semester he was full of energy, entusiastic, and despite his inconsistencies with treating students differently (arbitrarily) he was an excellent prof. This semester, amid rumors that he will be leaving OSU after this semester, Dr. Rockley was markedly less enthusiastic about teaching, and his students really suffered for it :(

Pros: If you are pursuing a career in the sciences, want to be sure that you know the material, and want to get into grad school: take this class. It's very challenging but definitely worth it. Just be sure to study hard for every test (especially in the beginning) or you'll freak out during finals.
Cons: His courses are infamous for being extremely difficult.

Rockley really knows chemistry, but can expect too much of his students. He doesn't assign homework, but expects you to read the book and do the sample problems. If you don't, you WILL fail the course. His tests are all equation based chem, so you really have to practice. The tests and labs are the only things you're graded on, so you have no room to mess up.
