Pros: Explains everything clearly
Easy to understand
Hybrid class
Cons: Difficult quizzes
Professor Guyse is one of the best "math" professors I have ever had. He's a nice person and explains the material in a way we understand. He uses practical examples so it's not difficult to keep up.
The quizzes were VERY difficult since they are taken BEFORE the material is covered in class so students do the reading. I would've gotten an A in the class if it wasn't for the quizzes, don't worry though, the midterm and final are much easier. Personally I think the midterm was easier than the final, so I recommend to be extra prepared for the final.

Pros: No Homework
Study Guide for Midterm/Final
He speaks perfect English
Online Quizzes
Curves Quizzes
Cons: Quizzes can be difficult
Final is a bit rough
I know from failing Darbandi that this guy is 100x better. Darbandi is interesting, but his class is hell in comparison. Other Tom302 professor that's pretty easy is Halati which i heard from friends. This class is basically made up of just online quizzes and 2 tests, midterm/final. the midterm and final have study guides and the tests are exactly like the study guides except changes in numbers. The hardest part of the class is probably the online quizzes which requires intense Index and Googling skills. The questions on the quizzes seem self made which make it difficult to find answers online. He gives a decent curve on the quizzes at the end of the quarter though. He speaks perfect English, which is a surprise to me since 80% of my professors i barely understand, so you can follow along with his lessons easily. IMO he looks like the evil professor from Amazing Spiderman 1 the movie.

Pros: Drops the lowest grade quiz
Tells you exactly what is going to be on the midterm and final
Practice exams are very similar
Cons: HARD quizzes (MUST read or be a professional googler to do well on these)
I personally loved Guyse. He is witty, smart, and blunt, with a mild sense of humor- my favorite type of person. In his class, there is such thing as a stupid question and if you ask it more than once, you will look like an idiot. Don't be that person. His lectures are straight to the point and the examples he uses are relevant to both the exams and real-life. There are no games played in this class, he tells you the high likelihood of something showing up on a test and it's up to you to either test the probability that he's lying (HEHE C WHUT I DID THER) or just study exactly what you do in class. The choice is simple. Grade received: A

Pros: -Definitely has a way with teaching. -in-class concepts seem easy.
Cons: -quizzes are extremely hard
-information learned on quizzes is not the same on midterms, i saw it as busy work.
-Only need the textbook for quizzes not midterms
We only met once a week for our hybrid class, which was nice, and got out early. The quizzes, however, were extremely hard. He lists the chapter you will be quizzed on, but its a hot mess. He will pick out sections from each chapter to study which will only have you flipping back and forth during your timed quiz. The midterms-watch out! The material is easy, but his wording will throw you off so be prepared for questions along the lines of "no more than 5600," but more tricky.
I got an A, but i bought and used the program a lot when studying.

Pros: -Best teacher for TOM302
-Meets once a week to teach you how to use the program
-Midterm/Final extremely similar to practice exams
Cons: -Can sometimes come off as a little too brutally honest
I have friends that are TOM majors and they all suggest Guyse for TOM302, and after taking him, I understand why. This course is wrapped around the idea of Statistics done by managers, but instead of being hand written, Guyse has adapted the course to a more modern approach; using software to remove human error. The course consists of one meeting per week which is Dr. Guyse basically teaching everyone how to use the software for a specific need. Then before every weekly class period, a quiz is due. These quizzes are probably the most difficult part of the course but they are slightly curved. The two exams given are straightforward and very similar to the practice exams given. Overall, I thought this course was interesting and very applicable to today's world and would highly recommend taking it with Dr. Guyse instead of other professors that have you hand write the answers to the problems.

Pros: Hybrid class
Prof is knowledgeable
Makes a stats seem easy and understandable with the software
very clear about what he wants and how he wants it
Cons: curved online quizzes every week based on stuff you have to read on your own time, dont wait until last minute
Professor Guyse is awesome! It was a hybrid class where all the lessons in class where applied for midterm and final. He gives you a study guide for each. As long as you dont miss the one day and do the study guide, you will pass the 1 midterm and 1 final. There is an online quiz every week about different sections of the book, but he tells you EXACTLY what to read. My downfall was waiting until the day before so I had some difficulty there. He's really smart and wants his students to understand and he goes step by step. I would recommend him for hybrid or regular courses, just take more time for those quizzes. Grade: A-

There is 1 midterm and 1 final (which is not cumulative). Both are curved along with 8 quizzes done online that are curved as well. You are put in groups to work on these cases and at the end of the quarter you peer review each member so it is kind of important you show up to class. The quizzes were pretty easy if you read the chapter. The midterm and final were each on 5 essay questions based off of the cases we did in class. We were able to use notes, so the exams weren't too bad but I suggest you take some notes on on the cases when he goes over them in class since he doesn't really tell you what to expect on the exams. Overall, he's a good professor and as long as you come to class, the class should be pretty easy for you.

Pros: -Excellent lecture professor
-No busy work or B.S. chatting
-Speaks clearly
-Makes a difficult subject easy
-Makes the MidTerm harder than Final
-Noncumulative Final
-No Project/Presentation/Orals
-No need to speak if you don't want to
-Only graded on 2 test and 8 quizzes
-Relates lectures to cooking/guitar/or something fun to help you understand
Cons: -You will wish all your professors were like Guyse
I took hybrid Winter 11. Go to every class and take the best notes you can. The MidTerm and Final are based on the software and the knowledge of using the software comes from the lectures. So if you want to succeed on the Test then you have to attend class and take excellent notes. The quizzes are not that bad. Too many people are saying the quizzes are difficult. They are wrong. The quizzes are easy. They are based on definitions straight from the book. So read the lessons before you take the quiz then take the quiz and if you have trouble then search through the book for the answer. Simple! All grades are based on curve that is based on the median grade so there is nothing to worry about. A 20/25 on the quizzes gets you an "A".
I wish all professors were like Guyse. I understand everything he lectured (including software) and can actually use the knowledge in real life. I don't think I would understand the material as well as I do if I had taken a different professor. Grade Received: A

Pros: very nice, genuinely cares about students learning, very approachable and helpful, practice exams and solutions posted on blackboard are great prep for exams
Cons: extremely hard quizes, unclear powerpoints, tough grader on exams w/ answers that must be perfectly worded
Very nice and helpful. But he's so intelligent, he doesn't realize that others can't do multiple steps in their head in the split second he can. His quizzes are brutal and a huge part of your grade! They cover everything from the book and powerpoints, (plus things he thinks you should intuitively know, but don't,) but not the lectures. The powerpoints on blackboard are very unclear and crucial for quizzes. If you're good at reading between the lines and assuming that since this is true, then this other random thing must be true, then maybe you'll do well on the quizzes. I couldn't. The exams are only over the lectures. Take VERY detailed notes in class. Stop him and ask him slow down or repeat anything you missed, because it's ALL on the exams! Study your notes, and practice the practice exams over and over, and you can easily pass the exams. Be sure to word your answers on the exams exactly like he does in his solutions to the practice exams, no less and no more. He hammers you for over answering. Got and A.

Pros: Allows you to use the program on exams
Self-learned class that is hybrid
Teaches fairly well
Cons: It is a self learned class and you must know the material before taking the quiz which is worth a huge amount.
I rated this professor before but I guess it didnt go through. Anyways this guy knows his stuff. He is very knowledgable on the subject and tries to explain (fairly well) on the stuff that is going to be on the midterm and final. His class consists of one midterm and one final. They are both ok since he gives you a practice exam beforehand and allows you to use the program that he teaches in class. The only bad thing about him is that you have to learn the marterial before he teaches it and take a quiz on it before the class. He grades homework by completion so as long as you show your work your fine. Like the previous comments he does get kind of pissy as the quarter goes on if you dont understand the material. Overall he is a good professor

Well, I don't know how I did it, but I passed this class. He goes over the material thoroughly and gives plenty of examples to prepare you for the exams. Practice exams are given a week before and no homework is due that day. Homework isn't too hard to do and is graded on completeness not correctness, but do make sure you turn them in because it helps boost your grade -- easy points, basically. He is extremely generous with his curve, which is really really nice. If you think you're not doing well, then you might be doing fine. I thought I'd get a C- and I ended up with a B+! This class actually made satistics interesting. Grade Received: B+

Very good teacher. He's actually one of those professors who are both passionate about his field of study as well as actually teaching. I like hybrid classes, but make sure to go to every lecture class! He doesn't count attendance, but the bulk of teaching is in the actual lecture - you really will learn A LOT. Online quiz every week with the powerpoints available by the end of the week. Very nice, he curves, uses very practical examples, explains in detail what the problems are asking for and how "someone who doesn't know stats would understand it." I've been having bull shit professors, especially in the FRL departments, so he truly was very refreshing and reminded me why I liked math.

His class is straight forward. 8 quizzes, 1 midterm, and 1 final (curves all of them). So that aspect of the class I liked. The quizzes are difficult, maybe not as hard as his Tom 302 quizzes, but still pretty hard. I recommend keeping the book's index handy while taking the quizzes. His exams are hard as well. The class average for both the midterm and final was D+, so make sure to study your ass off! Excel is mainly used for solving the cases from the book and examples he hands out, but when the class did bad on the midterm he made us do the calculations by hand for the final, I preferred using excel for this class. He does go pretty fast when lecturing and you will find yourself lagging behind a bit on excel, but he will demonstrate again or slow down if asked (he does post the excel sheets on blackboard though). As far as being a dick...for the most part he is a fairly nice guy, but he did email me back in a pissy manner once after asking him a question he went over in class, and when the class did poorly on the midterm he did get pissy as well, but overall he's ok at best. As an instructor he's not great, but not bad either...just ok I guess. I shouldnt complain though, he is a better instructor than Yuanjie He, Wenge Zhu, John Wyatt and Stanley Marlow. If you're an Ebz/Tom major and need to take this course, then take it with him if available. Grade Received: B-

I don't really know where to begin. Knowledge - he absolutely knows his stuff. He has been teaching for years and does not need to crack open the book other than for sample problems. No crappy PowerPoints stolen from publishers (in class), just him sitting on computer / writing on the board on how to do the problems. Which leads to teaching ability. He is blunt. He teaches you the most direct way on how to solve problems and make them seem super easy (and MOST are, just pratice). Here's the only problem: he gets pissy if you don't pay attention. He quickly becomes VERY irritated and pissed off if nobody answers correctly to an concept he just explained, so pay attention. If you answer correctly, you get on his good side :) and that helps. 8 weekly quizes (he curves after taking all 8), 1 midterm (curves) and 1 final (curves). So now do you see where it helps to be on his good side? :). Midterm and Final are basically a joke because all you do is punch in numbers and use the program to find the correct results. It's the weekly quizzes that's a b***h because you have to read the book and run through PowerPoint slides for specific information. Test is from publishers, so it's a lot harder. Just pay attention and you will get at least a B. For an A, you have to be VERY analyitical. Grade Received: B+

He's nice, he'll help you in his office hours and his tests are not too hard at all- but his lectures and quizzes were some of the most difficult stuff ever. All the statistics involved and the terms were completely over my head. I bombed those online weekly quizzes left and right, but got As on the tests just fine. The tests are only 5 questions or so, and he gives you a practice test that is nearly the same to study from. You don't really need the book if you go to class- I opened mine twice, maybe. There's no homework though, that's a plus. Grade Received: B-

This class was a hybrid meeting once a week with the grading scale being the midterm at 33%, final is 33% and quizzes are 34% of your grade. Quizzes are taken once a week and was VERY HARD. You need to read the book and you can use it when taking the quiz but it wont really help because his questions are complex. You can take the quiz twice and he takes the higher grade from the two off blackboard. He curves all the quizzes, midterm, and final. Also, he gives a study guide for the midterm and final. To be honest, the study guide was only helpful on the final because it was very similar but the midterm was very hard and different from the study guide. He's a nice and helpful teacher but I would not recommend him because he's not easy. If you want to know a rough estimate of a grade you will get, just average what grade you received in STA120 and TOM301 (also prerequisites). I received a C in STA120, TOM301, and TOM302 but if you take this teacher, study hard and good luck! Grade Received: C

I really liked professor Guyse's class. Like others mentioned, his class is a hybrid, so you only meet two times a week and replace one class with an online quiz. Unfortunately, the quizes are hard, 10 questions 2 points each. You get three attempts, and Guyse marks you for your highest score recieved. Out of the 7-9 quizes we took, I only managed to get an 18/20 two times, with most of my other grades at 16. The midterm and final are easy, I recieved high A's on both, but my grade still factored out to an A-. Study hard on the quizes, take your time, and don't be afraid to ask Guyse for help, he is a nice guy (and even sorta funny!) Grade Received: A-

Prof. Guyse is a cool guy. He knows his stuff and teaches is somewhat well. I would recommend this teacher if you are pretty familiar with statistics. His class is kind of easy. It is composed of a 10 weekly quiz (20 pts each) and two midterms(150 pts each). and that is your grade. If you fall behind you're screwed. Be sure to keep up with the homework each week and do well on the quizzes. if not then you're screwed and will have to pull an all nighter studtying for his tests. I worked pretty hard and pulled off a B.

Dr. Guys is wonderful professor. His class was hybrid class which we need to go to class once a week and we have to read online powerpoint presentation in WebCT and take online quiz every week. His quiz was so so and there are three attempts for the same quiz. There were 9 quizes and one extra credit quiz. There is one midterm and final. His exam is not hard. His explains very well and his is also nice. I hated the statistics, but he made me become interested in the statistics. You will learn a lot if he takes his class. Really recommend this professor.
