Job Summary:
The Tactile and Braille Production Assistant creates tactile graphics for ABLE recipients, produces braille and tactile documents, and assists with order intake, tracking, and follow-up for the Braille Department. Tactiles are computer-generated, raised-line drawings that can be felt and understood with the fingers. They are essential to understanding graphs, maps, and other technical depictions that are especially critical in STEM classes. Because few people have experience with tactile and braille production, we are willing to train someone who has basic computer graphic design skills, is attentive to detail, and has an interest in math and science. ABLE offers a flexible and friendly environment; the ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative atmosphere is essential.

Qualifications:
1. Minimum of high school diploma; post-secondary education preferred
2. Minimum of two years of experience in an office environment
3. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel, and with PDF documents
4. Experience using scanners, printers, copiers, and other office equipment required; experience with braille and tactile embossers preferred
5. Experience in transcribing braille and tactile graphics preferred
6. Ability to prioritize, handle multiple projects, and manage time effectively

Job responsibilities:
1. Transcribe print diagrams into a tactile format following established guidelines and standards using ABLE-preferred software (currently Visio).
2. Perform or oversee the digital text recognition process, including scanning to PDF, using ABBYY FineReader to create editable text, and correcting OCR documents.
3. Produce or oversee the production of braille assignments, including embossing, bursting, binding, and mailing to recipients.
4. Assist with order intake, tracking, and follow-up according to established procedures.

Pay range: $19.00 to $20.50 per hour

Benefits and other compensation: Generous PTO, holidays, and SIMPLE IRA.

To Apply:
Please email resume, cover letter, and three professional references to tactile@ablenow.org. No email contact will be made until after your resume is reviewed.

ABLE is an equal opportunity employer. All applicants will be considered for employment without attention to protected class, including, but not limited to, race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran, or disability status.
