		<description>As a parent of a freshman, you are right on target with your observations and parent recommendations.    Having conversations with your child about the importance of General education courses is an effective way to embrace the academic requirements by teaching institutions.  This can only prepare them for the “dislikes” they will encounter after employment.    General education courses also develop critical thinking skills and bring value to a diverse society.  
 Although these courses are important, so is having a plan to graduate in a timely matter.   Looking for the connections between majors and liberal art courses in a course catalog is not only time consuming….it often requires an Excel spread sheet to find the answers!  .
